Doha: IBQ to sponsor next annual Masters Cricket Tournament

Doha, Dec 4: International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) announced the sponsorship of the 11th IBQ Masters Cricket Tournament in the city. Held every year from January to March, this tournament is organized by the Qatar Veteran Cricket League and brings together local teams, including professional players and cricket enthusiasts from Doha-based public and private companies.

Chandramohan Pillai, AGM and head of administration and facilities at IBQ said: “Over the past decade, IBQ has enthusiastically supported the Masters Cricket Tournament. This is a key sporting event in IBQ’s annual CSR initiatives that promotes the value of sports in Doha. Through the Masters Cricket Tournament, we focus on creating awareness and driving interest in the sport, and are delighted to see cricket gaining popularity in the region.”

The organiser of Qatar Veteran Cricket League, M I Farid, added: “This event brings together local cricket enthusiasts belonging to the business fraternity, and offers them the opportunity to play competitive cricket. Over the years, this event has gained reputation as the event in Doha’s cricketing calendar. We remain grateful to IBQ for sponsoring the IBQ Masters Cricket Tournament for the 11th consecutive year.”

This year’s IBQ Masters Cricket Tournament will include a total number of 31 teams: 15 teams in division I and 16 teams in division II. The tournament is scheduled to start on Friday December 11 with the finals scheduled for Friday February 26.

IBQ has been supporting several initiatives related to sports in Doha, and considers this as an important pillar of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy. This includes National Sports Day held every year in February, in addition to a range of different sports tournaments. These events are aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and encourage the next generation to practice sports.

IBQ’s CSR track record also extends to supporting a wide range of other worthwhile community activities, such as education, health and philanthropic initiatives, culture and arts, among others.
