Puttur, Dec 5: Thieves entered a house at Golithottu near Nelyady in the taluk on the night of Thursday December 3 and decamped with booty worth Rs 6.72 lac. The family was away at the time.

This theft occurred at the house of Abdul Nasir Hosamane, former vice president of Golithottu gram panchayath, when no one was there. Nasir happens to be a relative of minister, U T Khader. Gold ornaments, cash, and valuables worth Rs 6.72 lac including Rs 1.80 lac in cash and three cellphones, were stolen.

Nasir had left for Mangaluru on the evening of Thursday to attend the marriage of a relative along with wife and two children, by locking the house. The family returned by 11 pm and found that their house had been burgled during their absence.

The thieves gained entry into the house by breaking the bolt of the back door. They broke open the lock of steel almirah and strew around clothes and documents. They then broke the secret locker and took away gold ornaments, cash and other items. They also sifted through another steel almirah in the bedroom but did not get anything as only clothes were kept there.

Assistant superintendent police from here, Rishvanth, and Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Timmappa Naik, visited the spot. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts arrived at 2.30 am the same night from Mangaluru and conducted investigation. The sniffer dog led policemen till the national highway located by the side of the house. Uppinangady police have registered a case and investigation is on.
