Mangaluru, Dec 5: A release from the office of the district deputy commissioner said that neither the state government nor the district administration have given permission or instruction to any individuals or organizations to collect donations and funds to help victims of Chennai floods. The release said that the administration has noted that some individuals and organizations have come forward to pool donations and funds to help the distressed people of Chennai.
"The district administration has not been collecting donation either in kind or cash, as the Tamil Nadu government has announced that it does not need donations from other states. We hereby request the general public not to extend any financial assistance or materials by way of donation for the above cause. People may bring to the notice of the district administration if they come across illegal collection of donations, by calling toll-free number, 1077", the release stated.
If people from Karnataka have gone missing or need to be rescued after getting trapped in Chennai floods, the necessary details may be given to toll free number 1070 of Karnataka State Natural Disasters Monitoring Centre, Bengaluru or by calling telephone No. 080-22340676 to enable the concerned to pass on the details to their counterparts in Tamill Nadu and extend necessary assistance, said deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim.
