Sydney, Aug 21: Freed terror suspect Muhammad Haneef's work visa has been reinstated by Acting Chief Justice Jeffery Spender of the Federal Court in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Haneef flew back to India late last month after Australian prosecutors dropped the terrorism charge against him.

The 27-year-old Indian doctor can now return to Australia and resume work.

Whatever happened in Mr. Muhammad Haneef's case and the trials and tribulations he had to face are very, very sad and is highly condemnable. However, unlike Indian Police, their Australian counterparts had the strength of character to admit they had done a shoddy investigation and messed up things.

Would Indian Police have done that? Can one just wonder how many poor people are in Indian jails even without committing crime or offence, just because they are poor and cannot afford to hire lawyers or have money to get bails?

Moreover, can one realise how many people who have committed crimes are scot-free simply because they have either the political clout, influence or money to just buy police, lawyers, etc.? Does Indian Police or Courts do anything to investigate why these undertrials are in jail and what can be done to release ?
