2 other Thane corporators remanded in cop custody

Thane, Dec 7 (TOI): A day after two corporators from Thane municipal corporation were sent to police custody for allegedly abetting the suicide of builder Suraj Parmar, two other corporators Hanumant Jagdale and Sudha Chavan, were on Sunday remanded in custody by additional sessions judge V V Bambarde to probe their role in the case.

The corporators---Vikrant Chavan (Congress), Najib Mulla, Hanumant Jagdale (both NCP) and Sudhakar Chavan (ex MNS-turned independent)—were arrested after Parmar's suicide note mentioned their names for extortion.

Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition in the state legislative assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, said in Nagpur that the initials 'EK' and 'ES' in Parmar's diary were codes for Eknath Shinde and Eknath Khadse. However, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that the Opposition should make allegations if it has proof.

Thane police officials said on Sunday that the probe could open a Pandora's Box on corruption involving builders, politicians and bureaucrats as the police have incriminating documents of Parmar's financial deals with politicians.

TOI recently reported papers seized during an I-T raid on Parmar's firm in 2014 mentioned those who received funds for poll expenses.
