Beltangady: Puppetry artiste dies under suspicious circumstances

Beltangady, Dec 7: A puppetry artiste of north Indian origin named Shankar Das (17) died in his rented home at Nidgal in Kalmanja in the taluk on Sunday December 6. Owner of the house, Jagadish Shetty, filed a complaint about the incident.

It is gathered that the victim is from Melkar, Panemangalore. His father, Munna Chand Chaurasia, filed a complaint, expressing suspicion about his son's death, and seeking detailed investigation.

Jagadish Shetty said in his complaint that when he saw, Shankar Das had fallen down to the floor after trying to hang himself on Sunday morning. He said he then took the artiste to the hospital but by then he had died.

Shakar Das, a member of a puppetry troupe, was liquor addict. He had returned to Nidgal after taking part in a performance at Bengaluru recently, it is learnt.
