Udupi, Dec 8: Two persons hailing from Uchila near Kaup in the taluk were killed in a tragic accident which occurred near Mirjan Fort at Kumta in Uttara Kannada district on Monday December 7. Their deaths occurred when the car they were travelling in got involved with an accident with a truck. Three others in the car sustained grievous injuries.

Rashid (25) from Bhaskarnagar in Uchila, and his cousin, Asmat (23), lost their lives in this accident. Asmat's father, Irfan, child, Faize, anc Rashid's friend from Mangaluru, Safwan, suffered serious injuries in this accident.

Rashid, employed at Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, was on visit to hometown since the last two weeks. Rashid and his relatives were travelling in a car belonging to his friend Safwan from Mangaluru, to visit the relatives of Asmat's husband living in Kumta. On Monday evening, the entourage had undertaken its return journey. Within sometime after they started, their car got involved with head-on collision with a truck. The car was badly mangled in the process. Rashid was driving the car at the time, it is learnt.

Asmat, who had suffered serious injuries, was shifted to a private hospital, where she died sometime later. The other injured were admitted into a hospital at Manipal. A case about the accident was registered in Kumta police station.
