Bahrain, Dec 8: Konkan Singers Club, one of the oldest expatriate clubs in the country celebrated its 38th annual day with grandeur on Friday December 4 at the BaenSang Thai Auditorium. The program was graced by the presence of chief guest Fr Freddy D’Souza, parish priest of Sacred Heart Church.
Since December symbolizes the festive season the managing committee had arranged a fun filled afternoon for all its members and guests present. Nirmala Fernandes took charge as master of ceremonies. She welcomed the guests and members as the Christmas theme buzzed. The program started with scintillating and mesmerizing carol singing by their own Sacred Heart Church carollers.
Two Santa Clauses were on call for the show and gave away Christmas tree gifts to all the kids below 12 years and distributed chocolates and sweets. Kids danced with Santa and enjoyed themselves. President Walter Noronha welcomed the gathering and thanked those who supported the club and requested the members to support the activities of the club by participating in them. Being the oldest club in Bahrain the Konkan Singers Committee had decided to honor the people who contribute to society through charity and help the underprivileged in Bahrain and back home in India. One such couple, Simon and Precilla Machado were selected by the committee.
Joel D’Sa, general secretary briefed about the life of Simon Machado from his humble beginning and his hard and well fought journey to Mumbai as well as his life in Bahrain and elaborated the contributions made by them to society through which many lives have changed. They have brought smiles on the faces of most of the underprivileged people. Their contribution towards church activities is commendable. Konkan Singers Club thanked them for their immense support and kindness. Fr Freddy D’Souza, president Walter Noronha and past president of the club Henry Almeida honored Simon and Precilla Machado and their children Shawn and Shaina Machado. Fr Freddy in his speech congratulated Konkan Singers Club for their kind gesture and thanked Simon and Precilla Machado for their humble generosity. Outgoing committee members Steven D’Souza and Robert Fernandes were felicitated with mementoes for their dedicated service.
The stage was set for entertainment. There were many dances by children and adults alike, which were appreciated by the crowd. The comedians of the club sent the crowd on a laughter riot by their entertaining skits. Also members showed off their singing talents through the beautiful songs sung.
Many membership draws were conducted during the program. DJ Francis entertained the crowd with his rock music. Entertainment was coordinated by Sujay Pinto with his dedicated team, and choreography for the dances was handled by Ajay Lobo. Ruben D’Souza took charge of photography. Avinash Fernandes, assistant general secretary delivered the vote of thanks. A sumptuous buffet lunch was enjoyed by all. It was a memorable day for all the Konkan Singer Club members present.
Congratulations to Konkan Singers Club. Happy for my Bhavoji Walter Noronha. God bless you all. Happy Christmas. There are many poor and deserving people who are looking for opportunities. Thanks to the brave and generous hearts who still believe in helping others and giving a smile to the others. Let many generous people come forward and bring sunshine in the lives of people!
