Udupi, Aug 22: The minor bridge at Tarolitota on Gurugundi road in Yellur village has been severely damaged owing to the plying of heavy vehicles belonging to Nagarjuna, the locals accused.

The road was constructed by Yellur village panchayat to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles belonging to Nagarjuna. This is the shortest route connecting Yellur-Karama-Padubidri. Interestingly, the local women had kept their eye on the movement of vehicles belonging to Nagarjuna and did not allow entering the vehicles by putting wooden logs and pipes on the road.

Despite this, a vehicle belonging to Nagarjuna entered this road and damaged the minor bridge at Tarolitota and damaged the bridge. Yashwant Shetty, president, Yellur village panchayat, paid visit to the spot where the minor bridge has been damaged. At the same he urged to stop the movement of overloaded vehicles on this route and asked the district administration to take action against Nagarjuna.

Local agitators Jayalaxmi Ramdas Acharya, Balakrishna Acharya, Shyamala Acharya, Shyamala, Kutti Shetty, Rahim Kunjoor and others were present on the spot.

Interesting thing is that, only men were seen in the agitations against Nagarjuna so far. But in Yellur, women have also taken active part in the agitation. This has signified about the big movement likely to take place in the coming days against Nagarjuna.

Only peoples' movements will meet with sucess since the administration is hand in glove with big business and ignore damage to public property like roads and bridges. All important roads and bridges have been almost destroyed by the movement of heavy vehicles owned by miners and other private developers who have plundered nature and destroyed the environment of DK. Hope such movements of public would bring some fear into the minds of selfish businessmen.
