Mumbai, Dec 10: One person stands arrested by National Investigative Agency (NIA) for plotting to eliminate Hindu religious leaders, journalists and politicians in Bengaluru and Hubballi in 2012.
Asadulla Khan (57) a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative is the person arrested.
The arrest was made at Mumbai airport on Wednesday, December 9. Khan will be produced in special NIA court soon and a custody of NIA will seek his custody.
The plot to target religious leaders, journalists and politicians in Hubballi was unearthed in 2012 when NIA arrested a person in Beed in Maharashtra for procuring ammonium nitrate and other materials. The arrested person revealed about the plot of eliminating very important persons in Hubballi and Bengaluru. LeT operatives Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Zundal, Fayaz Kagji and others were said to be involved in the plot, as per the information NIA gathered.
Accordingly a charge sheet was filed against Asadulla Khan and others in 2013. Most of the accused in this case have left the country or absconding. The present arrest is believed to unearth more details on the plans of the terrorists.
