Puttur: Accidental fire - old lady dies of burns

Puttur, Dec 10: A senior citizen accident caught fire and suffered extensive burns. She died at a hospital at Mangaluru on Wednesday December 9.

Achu (75) from Marama Mane in Tekkar village near Uppinangady in the taluk, who was living alone, sustained burn injuries when cooking in her kitchen on Tuesday. Her clothes caught fire from the hearth, as a result of which she suffered severe burn injuries. She was thereafter admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru, where she breathed her last on Wednesday, sources said.

In a report filed in Uppinangady police station, nephew of the deceased, Krishnappa Moolya, said that efforts to save the lady after she caught fire, failed. Uppinangady police have registered the case.
