Udupi, Dec 11: In connection with an incident in which four men had been attacked by a gang in Chandranagara and Punchalakadu areas near Kalathur recently, police personnel from Shirva station have arrested three more accused.

The arrested youth are Akbar (24) from Mallaru Pakeeranakatte, Mujammil (20), staying at Mallar Kote Road, and Iliyas (24), from Majoor Janata Colony. They were arrested on Thursday December 10.

With these arrests, the number of arrested persons relating to this case has gone up to five. The police continue to hunt for two other accused, who have absconded after getting involved with this crime.

Ashraf alias Asli (30) from Janata Colony and Abdul Sattar (29) from Guddekeri had been arrested on Tuesday in connection with this attack. They have already been remanded to judicial custody by a court here.

In separate incidents which occurred on Sunday night, Dinesh Devadiga, Rajesh Kulal, Kishore Kulal and Ashok Acharya hailing from Kalathur and Punchalakadu had been attacked by a gang of youngsters. Shirva police are investigating the case under the directions and guidance of district superintendent of police, Annamalai, additional superintendent of police, Dr Santosh Kumar, and Karkala assistant superintendent of police, Dr Sumana P. District crime intelligence bureau inspector, T Jayashankar and Shirva police sub-inspector, Johnson D'Souza supervised the operations.
