Bengaluru, Dec 15 (DHNS): The High Court on Monday ordered emergent notices to Chikkaballapur MP M Veerappa Moily, the Chief Electoral Officer and the District Electoral Officer on a petition that has sought the court’s directions for an enquiry into a “false” affidavit filed by the Congress leader during the last Lok Sabha elections.
Fact suppressed
The petitioner, V Shas-hidhar, contended that Moily, a former Union minister, “willfully suppressed” the fact that an FIR was lodged against him and Reliance Industries by the Delhi government, in his affidavit while filing the nomination for the Lok Sabha elections.
The petitioner insisted that non-disclosure of information was a serious violation that called for disqualification of an elected representative under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Hearing the petition, Justice Anand Byrareddy ordered the emergent notices and adjourned the hearing.
