Jharkhand speaker calls for responsible government, bureaucracy

Ranchi, Dec 15 (IANS): Jharkhand assembly Speaker Dinesh Oran once again called for responsible approach of the government and bureaucracy towards the legislative body to fulfil expectations of the people.

"People's expectations are high when there is government that enjoys majority in the house. The state government faces challenges of coming up to expectation of the people. The cabinet and bureaucracy's role is important in fulfilling the challenges of meeting expectations of the people," said the speaker in his opening remark of the first day of the winter session on Tuesday.

"People's expectation are represented by the elected legislators. To respect the legislators' view is the responsibility of the government and it's system. When government and bureaucracy fail to respect the views of the legislators, then the people's faith in democracy starts shaking."

The speaker's statement in the house comes after his remarks on December 11 when he expressed concern over the lowering dignity of the legislative and threatened to resign if the legislators' funds are not released.
