Bengaluru, Dec 16: Income Tax sleuths raided the house of P Ramesh, a Congress leader from C V Raman assembly constituency and also a close aide of chief minister Siddaramaiah.
As per sources, the IT department raided his house because it believed that Ramesh had not paid his taxes promptly in the businesses run by him. Ramesh is involved in various businesses including finance and real estate. Ramesh is also believed to be close to Rakesh, the son of the chief minister.
The raid was done on Thursday and Friday last week. The IT officials who raided Ramesh’s house at Jogupalya near Halasur went through lot of documents and seized few documents. The incident came light late.
Sources in the IT department confirmed that search operations were conducted at Ramesh’s house and his office in C V Raman Nagar and several documents were seized. About 45 officers from different cities participated in the raid. P Ramesh was not in town during the raid and his family cooperated with the IT department, it is said.
Some sources said that the documents seized include the documents related to Rakesh. But the officials did not confirm or deny this.
P Ramesh had contested during the 2013 Assembly elections from C V Raman Nagar assembly constituency as a Congress candidate and had lost to S Raghu of the BJP.
