Mangaluru: Vijay Diwas - Martyrs of Indo-Pak 1971 war remembered

Mangaluru, Dec 16: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, commemorating India's military victory over Pakistan in 1971 that resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh, the citizens on Wednesday December 16 gathered at the War Memorial in Kadri Park here and paid homage to the martyrs of the war.

The 'Vijay Diwas' commemoration ceremony was organized by the Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen's Association, Mangaluru under the aegis of Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust and Lions Clubs International, District 317 D.

Speaking to media persons, Col N Sharath Bhandary, coordinator of Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen's Association explained about the Indo-Pak war of 1971 that led to the liberation of Bangladesh and said that the association observes Vijay Diwas every year to pay tributes to the martyrs.

Speaking to media persons, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, chief coordinator, Shasthavu Shree Bhoothanatheshwara temple said, "It is our responsibility to pay tribute to our armed forces who sacrificed their lives for us. More people should come here and pay tribute. It is sad that only a very few people take part in such programmes."

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, SP Dr S D Sharanappa, ADC S Kumar, president of Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen's Association Vikram Dutta, general secretary S M Airan, treasurer Col N Balakrishna and many others paid homage by laying wreaths at the memorial.

    All those Sene's Vedike etc... instead of creating tensions in the peace living society kindly go to the border and fight for the nation. That is much worth.

    Government must make NCC compulsory in all the colleges.

    I think there is no time for Mangalurean to attend such meaningful memorial event instead of "entertainment/boosting/boozing/protesting" events.

    I salute those who fought for our country and liberation of other country.

    Very Well said Mr. Hussain. People don't have time to go to functions like this. Even I don't see any politicians here. Why?? Because you cannot give big big speeches here. And you cant even boast about you & your party. Functions like this should made in large scale, with students, teachers,lectures, professors,social reformers, freedom fighters, retired military soldiers & officers all should be called and spread the message of 'PATRIOTISM'.

    All families of martyrs of Indo-pak war, Kargil war and those soldiers who gave their life in border area should be given atleast 10 cents of land in their state and those soldiers sacrificed their life in Indo-Pakistan and Kargil war should be given land In Kashmir and Kargil. Jai hind.
