Hyderabad, Aug. 26 (PTI): In a major terror strike, at least 34 persons were killed and over 50 injured in two powerful near-simultaneous blasts at a crowded park and a popular eating joint here Saturday evening.

Twenty-seven people died when an explosion ripped through Gokul Chat Shop at Kothi locality at around 7.50 p.m, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister, K Jana Reddy, told reporters here.

In another blast five minutes earlier at a place five-kilometres away, seven persons perished in a blast in an auditorium in Lumbini Park near the State Secretariat in the heart of the city when a laser show was on, he said.

Reddy said about 500 people were in the auditorium at the time of incident.

The blast ripped through the middle row of the auditorium when the show had just begun. So powerful was the blast that some of bodies were flung into the air and scattered over the area.

Police cordoned off the areas and sounded a red alert across the city and conducted searches at railway stations and bus depots.

The profusely bleeding injured were admitted to Osmania Hospital, Mediciti and other hospitals.

There was confusion about what exactly had caused the explosion at the eatery after initial reports said it was due to a cylinder blast. However, police suspect that going by the impact and high casualties, it could be triggered by RDX.

The twin blasts of yesterday comes three months after the powerful explosion at Mecca Masjid here in May last.

HYDERABAD, Aug 25: In a major terror strike, at least 30 persons were killed and about 60 injured in two powerful near-simultaneous blasts at a crowded park and a popular eating joint in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.

Twenty four people died when an explosion ripped through Gokul Chat Shop at Kothi locality at around 7.50 pm, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy told reporters.

In another blast five minutes earlier at a place five kilometres away, six persons perished in a blast in an auditorium in Lumbini Amusement Park near the state secretariat in the heart of the city when a laser show was on, he said.

Reddy said about 500 people were in the auditorium at the time of the incident.

The blast ripped through the middle row of the auditorium when the show had just begun.

So powerful was the blast that some of bodies were flung into the air and scattered over the area.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said the toll at Lumbini Park, overlooking the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake, may go up as it was teeming with week-end crowd.

Reddy said that "according to preliminary reports, it was a terrorist act".

A senior police official said the explosives used in the twin blasts on Saturday were similar to the one used by terrorists in the Mecca Masjid blasts in May this year.

The police cordoned off the blast sites and sounded a red alert across the city and conducted searches at railway stations and bus depots.

Nobody can come inside India and do this kind of cruel act without the support of our own people. First we have to unite ourselves and then start fighting against terroists. We have 100's of problems unsolved and this kind of act is only the extension of that.

Intelligence agencies have repeatedly warned against sleeper Terrorist cells existing in South India, especially in Hyderabad, Mysore, Bangalore, Coastal Karnataka, and parts of Kerala and TN. These sleeper cells are acting as local agents for our neighbouring countries. I request our Intelligence/police depts. to brust this racket and hang the culprits.

There are institutions like IB, RAW and then each state police has its own intelligence unit. I wonder what they are doing? If some groups are using our partnership with US, for such attacks then it is actually shameful because they know very well this partnership is all show. Our partnership with US has more to do with geopolitics than with ideology.

I Condemn this cruel act from the Terrorists, It really hurts if you loose your own ones or Countrymen. Its disturbing the morale of the people of the city and nation. Who ever are the Terrorists they should be behind bars one or the other day and one thing they all have to anwser the Lord on the Judgment Day for killing such innocent people.

Some comments mentioned below are full of politics, I request all indians not to play dirty politics in the name this Cowardly act from the terrorists.... Dear Mr. Anand I appreciate your lots of comments made are good and lots of knowledge, But Can you explain me one good deed of Bajarangis done to your community?

What good Bajarangis have done to your community rather than beating up innocent priests and Minorities. They are cowards possibly terrorists too, they come in group & act in the night and fled away. You are in support for them as if they provide food for the poor and needy in your community, Instead they break the Law and Order of the Nation. One more thing May be you beleive All Terrorists are Muslims But remember All Muslims are not Terrorists. Thanks

What has happened to the city of Hyderabad? This sprawling city had become victim of terrorists’ attack in the recent past. It was the blast in Mosque 1st, then attack on Tasleema by fundamentalist MQM, now it is the term of twin blasts rocking & shaking the morale of the people of the city & nation.

Exactly 4 years back Mumbai was also rocked by deadly blasts on the same day. Terrorism is at its peak and it is proved by these blasts yet again. The left & right are crying for N-Deal scrapping & the Govt. is trying its level best to protect its chair. Blast victims & relatives were crying for help. It is surprising to see the late latif ambulances reaching the epicenter of the blast as usual late…in such a modern city like Hyderabad.

At least now, if the AP & central government wake up to set the things right before it goes out of control. N-deal issue is made big by red brigade for protecting their self interests. However, have they taken the government into task on issues like internal security, perhaps the things could have much better. Again about plotters, I do not wish to talk about.

There are many people who flay Bhajarangis may flay this cruel act by terrorists or may not also? As many have adapted the policy of “Ondu Kannige Benne, Ondu Kannige Sunna”. Anyways, what was said in Bhagavadgeeta & the same was reiterated by Abdul Kalam on the first day of his office is 100% true. “Whatever happened had happened for the good. Whatever is happening is happening for the good & whatever will happen …will happen for the good.
