Mangalore Aug 26: India stands next to Zimbabwe and Brazil in world with highest number of cervical cancer cases revealed Dr. Rajkumar while delivering a talk on ‘Cancer Registry in India-Challenges and Solutions’ organised by the department of Community Medicine in A J Institute of Medical Sciences, here in Mangalore recently.
Dr Rajkumar while highlighting the urgency for cervical cancer screening in rural India, opined ‘‘There should be many researches on Human Papilloma virus in India, as it is the causative agent for cervical cancer.’’
Dr Rajkumar is the associate professor in the department of Community Medicine of PSG Medical College in Coimbatore and co-principal investigator of the cancer registry and cervical cancer control programme of World Health Organisation (WHO).
Dr Rajkumar also pointed out a glaring fact that there was no specific cancer registry in the State.
