Mangaluru, Dec 22: On the directions of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) several trees along the Valencia - Nandigudda circle stretch were chopped down on Tuesday December 22 for the purpose of widening the road.
It is learnt that about 48 trees along the stretch from Fatima Retreat House will be cut. The MCC has been granted permission by the forest department for the operation, with the condition that saplings will be planted in their stead.
Mayor of MCC Jacintha Alfred speaking to daijiworld said that the trees are being cut for the purpose of widening the stretch. "We have obtained the clearance from the forest department and we will widen the concrete road till the Mannagudda circle," she said.
The district forest officer Hanumanthappa speaking to Daijiworld confirmed the same.
The work on widening the said road is underway from Father Muller Hospital junction from a few days.
