Chinese basektball club fined for unruly fan behavior

Beijing, Dec 23 (IANS): Liaoning, last season's finalists of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league, have been fined $16,000 for violent fan behavior, the CBA has announced.

A 17-year-old boy surnamed Liu was been detained by police on Tuesday for throwing a water bottle from the spectator stands during last Friday's CBA match between Liaoning and Zhejiang, reports Xinhua.

Liaoning player Guo Ailun, a key member of the Chinese national team which won the Asian Championship this year, was hit by the bottle in the face and suffered a gashing cut below his left eye.

Doctors say Guo will have to rest seven to 10 days before he can resume training.

The CBA league has been plagued by fan riots, trash-talking and fighting on court in recent years.
