Bengaluru, Dec 24: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa has demanded a Lokayuka probe into the alleged Rs 128 crore fraud in theTunga canal modernisation works in Shivamogga district.
Eshwarappa, who is the Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council, claimed that the Siddaramaiah government was implementing the Tunga canal modernisation works violating tender rules and without the approval of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL).
The BJP leader demanded a probe by the Karnataka Lokayukta into the alleged fraud in tender and execution of inferior quality of canal works.
Speaking to presspersons, Eshwarappa alleged that a private firm has been executing the 60 km canal work with the support of three engineers without signing an agreement with the government.
The KNNL headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has not followed the administrative formalities of examining and approving the project, he alleged.
He also demanded suspension of three engineers and filing a criminal case against the firm.
