Mangaluru, Dec 31: Dakshina Kannada human development report was launched by district in-charge minster B Ramanath Rai at Netravati hall in zilla panchayat office here on Thursday December 31.
Addressing the gathering Rai said, "This report will be helpful to know the diversity in the society. With the help of this report, we can work towards bridging gaps between different sections and bring about equality in the society. Such reports which help to bring about equality and develop human life are essential for human development. I congratulate all the people who have worked hard to prepare this report."
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said, "I congratulate the ZP president, the ZP CEO and all the officials on preparing such a report. This report will be helpful to the government to bring out new schemes. With the help of these reports, the government can bring out new schemes and thereby facilitate uniform human development. The chief minister conducts development meetings with DCs and CEOs of all the districts and the matters commonly discussed there are shortage of fodder, drought and other matters. Our district does not have these problems as there is very less agricultural activity here. This kind of report will be helpful to discuss many other aspects. We are more developed than other districts in the state, but we should not be complacent about it, and instead try to develop in comparison to bigger cities of the nation."
ZP president Asha Thimmappa Gowda said, "Human development is not only about income but it also includes areas such as education, infrastructure and other basic needs. This report will be helpful in ascertaining where we are lacking and develop in those aspects. I congratulate all the people who have worked hard and prepared this report."
Two-wheelers modified with extra wheels were distributed to 20 differently-abled people on this occasion.
Dr S N Shetty and Dr Saigeetha who had contributed lot in preparing this report were felicitated at the occasion.
ZP vice-president, Sathish Kumpala, ZP CEO, Shrividya and others were present.
The report takes into account aspects like standard of living, health and education. Health includes child mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, etc; standard of living includes access to cooking gas, toilets, drinking water, electricity, house, agricultural activities etc; and education includes primary and secondary education.
As per the report, Dakshina Kannada district, comprising Bantwal, Beltangady, Mangaluru, Puttur and Sullia taluks, has a human development index of 0.687, child development index of 0.721, gender inequality index of 0.043, food security index of 0.571, and composite Dalit development index of 0.787.
