Four-day international CES starts January 6


New York, Jan 3 (IANS): The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be held from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas, the official website said.

CES is a global platform where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace and more than 3,600 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers and developers, participate in the event.

"CES, the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for more than 40 years," the official website of CES said.

It holds a conference programme with more than 200 conference sessions and nearly 150,000 people from 150 countries attend the event.

CES features companies and products including 3D printing accessories, audio devices, computer hardware/software/services, digital imaging/photography, electronic gaming and wireless devices and services.

The first CES took place in New York City in June 1967. Since then, thousands of products have been announced at the yearly show, including many that have transformed our lives.

The products include Videocassette Recorder (VCR) in 1970, camcorder and CD players in 1981, Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) in 1996, high-definition television (HDTV) in 1998 and tablets, netbooks and android devices in 2010.
