14 killed in China bus fire, arson suspected


Beijing, Jan 5 (IANS): Arson was suspected after a bus caught fire in China on Tuesday and left at least 14 people dead and 32 injured, the authorities said.

The Ningxia regional department of public security has launched a manhunt for Ma Yongping, the suspected arsonist, Xinhua reported.

The tragedy took place around 7 a.m. (local time) in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, authorities said.

The site was cordoned off and the injured were rushed to hospitals.

According to the police, Ma owns three cars. Police in Ningxia localities checked for the suspect and his car plate numbers on various road and highway entrances and exits.

Pictures on microblog sites showed the entire bus engulfed with fire and smoke.
