'Mufflerman' Kejriwal in Delhi govt ad irks BJP, Congress

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI): The Delhi government's latest advertisement on 'odd-even' scheme featuring Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 'mufflerman' avatar, was today pilloried by the BJP and Congress for having "blatantly circumvented" the Supreme Court guidelines and violated the "spirit of law".

With his back towards the camera, Kejriwal appears in the ad with a muffler wrapped around his neck and head and praises the efforts of traffic police and volunteers in making the car rationing scheme a success.

Kejriwal, who appears inseparable from the accessory during the winter months, says "we need to win the minds" of people and advises volunteers not to fight with violators.
In the 1 minute 32 seconds advertisement, Kejriwal also narrates the tale of a certain volunteer, who apparently managed to change the heart of an errant motorist by politely nudging him to follow the scheme.

"If you spot a violator, fold your hands and politely remind him. No need to fight or argue. Just tell him that you have probably taken out the wrong numbered car by mistake," Kejriwal says.

Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said through the advertisement the ruling AAP was indulging in "petty politics", while Congress spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee felt it betrayed Kejriwal's "scant respect" for law and institutions.

The CM's act is "unethical" and amounts to encouraging people to violate the law, Gupta said. "Technical arguments that the face is not visible won't cut ice. As a citizen he has not set a good example," he said.

Mukherjee said the government could have easily opted for a different advertisement format to make people aware of the scheme, which was launched on the new year and is proposed to conclude on January 15.

"He (Kejriwal) does not abide by the Transaction of Business Rules. Violates the spirit of the law. Does he have no respect for institutions?" she said.

Describing "personality cult" as anti-thesis of democracy, the Supreme Court had in May last year barred publication of photos of leaders in government advertisements except those of the President, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India.

I'm not his fan, but this time we must appreciate his and his team's efforts towards curbing Delhi pollution and traffic. He might act like an idiot sometimes but some of recent decision he took was appreciable. Well done sir.

Kejriwal is common enemy for Congress and BJP and both these national parties don't hesitate to join together to eliminate Kejriwal. Congress and BJP are enemies only in front of public and we fools blindly follow them. Congress and BJP are both dangerous of India's growth. Both these parties will take India back to 100 years unless good and educated guys join together and eliminate corrupt and criminal politicians.

Od even formula is working good at the moment. But it cant be permanent solution for pollution. we have to workout on long term solution. Good infrastructure is high demand in todays sitution. they need to impliment every year testing and passing of each vehivle. which will decrease almost 50% of pollution by vehicle. need to take action to increase ground water table. swatch bharath abhiyan needs to impliment strictly in each and every ward.
Govt. should give licence only for green buildings.

People who are in Dubai are well known that, Vehicle in Dubai is more than dehli or other capital still there is no pollution here because of Every year testing of Vehivle. There is no garbage problem in any part of Dubai.
Green Building concept is fully and strictly following by all building contractors. Infrastructure is very good compare to any capital city in India.
But before impliment all we, people should have major responsibility is follow he rules.
In India we can get any certificate by paying bribe, with out following any rules.
if it continues offcourse not only odd even, if they stop all vehicle from road also polution will not decrease.

Everyday I pray for CM Kejarval's good health! He is an educated professional who can think what is right from wrong. If he wanted money, fame he could have gone to the US for the job offered to him but he has not done it. So long live politicians like Hejarval. Jai HO! Let more of youngsters and educated people be in the politics. This is a sincere wish of an aam aadmi like me.

The CM Kejriwal will be the biggest headache of the BJP.

The BJP was expecting him to wear custom-made 10 lakh winter clothing with fancy headgear while millions in New Delhi are shivering in the extreme cold weather.

AAP spends a lot on media publicity..In the first year itself they kept 500crores budget..obviousley every statement will come in headlines..AAP doesnt represent even 1% of the ideology which they boasted during their movement..they are doing unethical things (which they said sin others doing)day in & day out..they are becoming worst than other political parties, whether its supporting LALU/MAMATA, taking political mileage on death, defaming others, increasing salary, defending MLAs, throwing out dissident..virtually no difference with other parties, i can say one step above than others..

Odd even scheme is copied from Beijing china. So they are the inventors. So china is in financial trouble now after lower productivity.
So it is not a good solution. Solution would be diversifying relocating business units and government bodies to nearby towns and hence developing entire country. By restricting so they are actually hindering development. Thick skinned fat tummy politicians cannot understand that... Lol

The success of AAP in Odd-Even is really appreciable. It is one of the toughest political decision for any political party, more so for AAP, new entrant.

The success is jolting all other political parties, but BJP is become restless. Discrediting and questioning the success itself, as usual.

First of all i want to let you know that Central govt fully supported scheme.
Some of intolerant comments for today:
Man kept under house arrest, tortured by in-laws for two months
Delay in investigation into health camp deaths - protest planned
Woman allegedly gang-raped by cops, escapes from hospital

any where our friend jossey didnt demand for President Rule in state.
But if in Maharastra even a small thet also he will blame BJP / RSS / Modi / Feku (Rahul) and demand for President Rule in Maharastra.
seems more concerned about Maharastra than Karnataka.
