Mangalore, Sep 3: The fishermen community of the city opposed the salvage operations of sunken ship ‘DenDen’, at Tannirbavi beach here.

This was announced in a press conference by Vasudev Bolur, general secretary of All-Karnataka Fishermen's Council here on Monday September 3.

The ship had capsized at Tannirbavi sea-shore a couple months ago. Since then the concerned officials of the ship are in touch with the district administration for the salvage operations.  However the Bolur opined that salvage operations will be a great threat to the environment and would have adverse effect on the fish-breeding.

He further said that in the recent years, fish-breeding has decreased drastically. "If they go for the salvage operations, the local fishermen may have to go hungry as it will affect fish breeding further," said Bolur.

Hence, the fishermen may hold huge protest if the administration does not stop the proposed salvage operation, added Bolur.

The authorities should safeguard the interests of the nature as well as fishermen and it is with this view that they should not continue with salvage operations.
