Mangalore, Sep 3: The whole world is going through tough time politically. In this time the existence of a secular media like Vartha Bharathi is indeed amazing and appreciable, said Dr C S Dwarakanath, senior advocate-journalist, and social activist here recently.
He was delivering the inaugural address at the 5th Anniversary of leading Kannada daily Vartha Bharathi in Milagres Hall here.
He said that the Vartha Bharathi is unlike any other bourgeois news paper. The daily has not only understood the actual need of the hour and is responding to needs of dalits, minorities, suppressed, exploited. It is one of the rare newspapers which has exhibited exemplary social commitment.
The anniversary was chaired by the chief editor of the daily Abdul Salam Puttige. Additional DGP Dr Subhash Bharani, Mangalore University Chair in Christianity head Fr John Fernandes, M P Umeshchandra of journalism department of Mangalore university, Zehara Nisar Puttur, K Kantaraj Tumkur, Anwar Sadat Goodina Bali, Addur Shiva Shankar Raoand Madhyama Communications director H M Afroz were also present on the dais.
