Mangalore, Sep 5: Taking into consideration the needs of farmers South Canara District Credit Co-operative (SCDCC) Bank Ltd will lend short term loan to farmers of Dakshina Kannada, informed the SCDCC Bank chairman M N Rajendra Kumar here on Tuesday, September 4.
Addressing the media persons he stated the government has failed to pay the amount for waiving off loan and interest to the bank. The Bank has already disbursed Rs 229.14 crore loans to farmers between April 1st to August 30, 2007 and Rs 204.68 crore has been lent during the last year too.
Giving details on the same, Rajendra informed that the bank has lent Rs 24.46 crore loan to the farmers compared to the loan given last year.
The government had earlier made an announcement to waive off the loans of farmers. Accordingly to carry this out DK district is entitled to receive Rs 105.48 crore from the government, for waiving off the loan scheme. But the amount released by the government so far, is Rs 20.01 crore in waiving of the interest on loans.
