Cold wave in Kashmir Valley, foggy weather in Jammu


Srinagar, Jan 15 (IANS): Night temperature remained several notches below the freezing point throughout the Kashmir Valley on Friday as a foggy weather caused inconvenience to people in Jammu city.

"The minimum temperature was minus 3.1 in Srinagar today (Friday). It was minus 3.4 in Pahalgam and minus 5.6 in Gulmarg," a meteorological department official said.

"Kargil town was the coldest town in the state today as the night temperature dropped to minus 12.0 there while Leh town recorded minus 7.4 degrees as the day's minimum temperature.

"Foggy weather marked the morning in Jammu city today as the minimum temperature was 8.5 degrees.

"Katra town recorded 7.0, Batote 2.1, Bannihal minus 0.1, Bhaderwah 0.0 and Udhampur 4.3 as the minimum temperature," the official added.

Foggy weather kept many commuters and office-goers inside, as traffic was halted by dense fog in Jammu city of Friday morning.

Weather is likely to remain dry in the next 24 hours.
