Beltangady, Jan 19: Beltangady police, who have arrested Raju alias Ravi in connection to the the killing of an aged couple living at Kakkinje for gain, led him to the crime spot at Kakkinje village here on Monday January 18. Hundreds of people had gathered at the spot after coming to know in advance that he was being brought there, as they were curious to have a look at the accused.
On being led to the spot of the crime scene, he explained that he approached the house from behind, and pretending to have lost his way, he called the residents of the house for help. After murdering them, he reached Kakkinje by using an interior road in the early morning. On the way, he picked up a pair of footwear found in front of a house, duly tossing his own footwear away, he said.
The accused stated that he then entered a poultry farm on the way by making use of its rear entrance, picked up some money found inside, and went to the downtown of Kakkinje. Although he requested auto drivers there to take him to Banjarumale where he worked, none of the drivers showed interest. Thereafter, he said he had tea in a hotel at Kakkinje before hitchhiking a truck that came that way, and reaching his workplace.
The police personnel accompanying the man were then led to Banjarumale where work on a dam is in progress. This happens to be the site where the accused worked. He showed the spot where he had hidden his torch and some other paraphernalia, after which the policemen picked them up.
When Raju was taken to his residence, he saw that his wife and daughter were preparing to leave for their native place. His wife said that she has nothing to do with Raju after he turned a murderer. The accused also shed tears in the presence of his family members.
The police team was led by Bantwal assistant superintendent of police, Rahul Kumar. The police department had made elaborate security arrangements, as they expected locals to turn their ire on the accused for his dastardly act.
