Udupi: Young engineer killed in bike-bus collision at Alevoor

Udupi, Jan 19: A young engineer lost his life in a tragic accident near Durgaparameshwari Temple's welcome arch at Rampura in Alevoor here late evening on Monday January 18.

The deceased has been identified as Dheeraj Shetty, son of Jayaram Shetty and Suma, residents near Dendoorkatte junction.

It is learnt that Dheeraj was riding towards Kukkikatte petrol bunk when his bike rammed into a bus. Unconfirmed sources said that he was distracted by the headlights of the bus. He was killed on the spot.

Sadly, he lay at the accident spot for nearly 45 minutes as nobody came forward to shift the body, sources said. He was identified only much later.

Dheeraj was among the two sons of Jayaram and Suma. His elder brother Suraj is studying abroad.

Dheeraj had completed his bachelor of engineering in Bengaluru and had recently found a placement. He was yet to join the job.

    It is sad that a young life was lost but it is also sad that we still do not have proper laws so that the bystanders are not afraid to take the victims to the hospital without worrying about court trips later on.It can be anyone on road tomorrow , may be our own son...lying without help

    Its heartbreaking for parents to loose a young son under such tragic circumstances. Its still sad to see that our people are reluctant to take the injured to the hospital immediately. Its worth taking a risk of being questioned by police to save a life. Rewards by almighty are much more for showing compassion.Please do not stand as mute spectators. So many young lives have lost due to the delay. May his soul rest in peace.

    Dozens of Bike accidents are taking place only due to high beams head lights of big vehicles coming from opposite direction. I rarely go out on scooter after sun set due to this grave problem which is never addressed by Govt or Honorable Courts.
    Govt is keen only on imposing helmets for both riders, but what is the use of helmet when the Cars and Buses with high beam LED lights come very fast and crush the two wheeler riders? Can helmets save such victims ?

    What a ghastly episode in the life and history of a young engineer. Accidents like these are on the increase and therefore it is expedient that traffic rules are strictly imposed on all traveling public including the rule of head lights.

    When our twin district administrators like DC & Traffic Police department ill take interest to minimise the traffic accidents?

    Day by day it is becoming worst.

    No strict Traffic rules or punishment for breaking the rules.

    No enough awareness programme

    No precaution to avoid accidents.

    No local Politicians interested to do some thing to work on this, coz they won't benefit financially on this .

    The days are nearer if traffic system continues like in this manners.

    Even all the drivers thinks , they don't need to follow the traffic rules,rash driving is their smartness. They forget they themselves will be the victim of traffic accidents.

    Why our super cop does not take action on illegal multiple lights of buses? Does he have the courage only to penalise two wheeler? I have seen buses with 6 head lights. Where are the law enforcement officers?

    Please bring a change. Please have a separate lane for bicycles, motor bikes and auto rickshaws. You will understand how many lives will be saved. Please implement this in Udupi district as soon as possible. And soon you will realise no helmets required in that case.

    @sri karkala,sad enough Young fellow lost life with bike.Even a seperate way to bikes and twowheelrs will not help without a helm when a accident takes place helm is protect your head when one falls and it can happen without a bus too.Here is bit unclear he hit the bus from back or front?when headlights disturbed must have riding against bus?wrong side?sad noone helped him in the first Moment.May his Soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathys to the Family.
