Ex-Bayern chief Hoeness to leave prison in February

Berlin, Jan 18 (IANS): Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich's former president Uli Hoeness will be leaving prison on February 29. He is serving time for tax evasion since June 2015.

Hoeness was originally sentenced to three and a half years in prison, but will be released early for good behaviour, the regional court of Augsburg said on Monday, reports Efe.

Since early 2016 he has only been spending the night behind bars, while he spends his time during the day with Bayern Munich's junior team.

The court announced on Monday that Hoeness will be released on parole, which will last for three years.

The former president was accused of evading taxes amounting to 28.5 million euros ($31 million).

He is expected to hold a prominent position at Bayern Munich after his release.
