Mangalore: MBA and BE in Information Service Inaugurated At SJEC

Mangalore, Sep 6: The MBA and Information Science & Engineering courses were inaugurated at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), here on Monday September 3.

On the same day the classes for first year students also commenced.  It was a memorable day for the College members as another branch of Engineering called Information Science was introduced in Engineering stream and a postgraduate programme MBA in the management line. 

The new batch of Engineering and Management students witnessed the programme along with their parents.

The inaugural function started with invoking the blessing from the Almighty.  Fr Valerian D’Souza, director of St Joseph Engineering College welcomed the gathering. 

After inaugurating the newly started courses, chief guest, J Alexander spoke on the importance of education and good living. George Castelino, Dr R K Yaji and Albert D’Souza were the guests of honour. They appreciated the progress that the college has made in a short span of five years.

Dr Joseph Gonsalves, principal of SJEC, requested the parents to keep track of their child’s progress. 

Meritorious incoming students were honoured by the president of the function, Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and president of St Joseph Engineering College. 

In the presidential address, the Bishop assured the students that the best education is provided at St Joseph Engineering College and wished them a good stay here.  Savitha proposed the vote of thanks.

There was an orientation programme for the incoming students in the afternoon, separately held for the incoming MBA and BE students.  The MBA session was conducted by Prof Eric Patrao, dean of Planning & Development.  The heads of various departments gave a brief introduction of their respective departments in the B E orientation session. 

Later, the students were taken around the college campus and were introduced to the 29 different laboratories and the library.

Mangalore: Projects Of SJEC Selected For Project of Year Award

Mangalore, Sep 6: The seminar-cum-exhibition of student projects – 30th series 2006-2007 organized by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was held at KLE’s Society’s College of Engineering and Technology, Belgaum on 17 August and 18 August 2007.

During this seminar two projects, one from the department of mechanical engineering and another from department of electrical and electronics engineering, from St Joseph Engineering College, here were selected for Project of the Year award and Commendation Certificate.
 
The project selected was one, generation of electric power from waste products using specially designed spark ignition Engine. The project was guided by Shantharama Rai C, Assistant Professor, department of E &E. The project was done by Gururaj, Lloyd Rodrigues, Chaithrika Rao and Lavanya Shenoy.

Another project selected was design and fabrication of pepper thresher. The project was guided by Binu KG, lecturer, deparment of mechanical engineering. The project was done by Mithun, Roan Rego, Jhonson Pinto, Sharath Shetty and Rohit Banger.
