Samsung launches Gear VR headset, Gear 2 smartwatch in India


New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): South Korean electronic giant Samsung on Thursday launched Gear VR -- its flagship virtual reality (VR) headset -- and two variants of the popular Gear S2 smartwatch for Indian consumers that will enable them augment and personalise their entertainment experience like never before.

The Gear VR that requires a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone to work can be bought at Rs.8,200 from all Samsung retail chains and on the e-commerce website Flipkart. 

"The Gear VR presents the unique opportunity for consumers to get an immersive, interactive Virtual Reality experience. Samsung will be at the forefront of this exciting revolution to create further 'wow' moments in our consumers' lives," said Manu Sharma, director, marketing IT & Mobile at Samsung India, during a media interaction here.

The device is compatible with Galaxy smartphones, including Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge , S6 and S6 edge.

Users can download and play over 150 games from the Oculus Store on the headset. 

The Gear VR has a trackpad, back button along with motion sensors offering gyroscopic and acceleration functions.

Boasting a smart circular design, the Gear 2 smartwatch is available in two different variants -- the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic -- at Rs.24,300 and Rs.25,800, respectively.

"Samsung Gear S2 is a true testimony to our commitment to provide breakthrough technology to make lives of our consumers better," Sharma added.

The Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic are the first Samsung smartwatches with circular designs. 

According to the company, the rotating bezel is a highlight of the new wearable as it will allow users to easily access all required information.
