Mangaluru, Jan 24: 'Sodvonnechea Vater', the much-awaited collection of Konkani hymns by 'White Nightingale' Fr Walter Albuquerque was released on Friday January 22 in a ceremony held at St Aloysius College Jesuit residence.
Well-known musician and singer, the yodeling king of Mangaluru, Melwyn Peris has compiled the music and tunes for Fr Walter Albuquerque's album. The CD was released in the presence of Jesuits, singers, musicians, family members of Peris and other well-wishers of the singer.
The ceremony was presided over by Fr Denzil Lobo, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru.
Melwyn Peris expressed his gratitude to Fr Walter Albuquerque, a nonagenarian himself, for being his mentor and source of inspiration from his childhood days. He recalled and narrated his musical journey with Fr Walter Albuquerque. He also did a short yodeling for the audience at the behest of Fr Albuquerque.
In his short address Fr Denzil Lobo expressed his sincere gratitude to Melwyn Peris for bringing out the melodies of the 'White Nightingale'. He also congratulated and thanked Fr Walter for his immense contribution in the field of music.
Speaking to the gathering Fr Walter Albuquerque expressed his joy by blessing Melwyn Peris and his team.
Fr Albuquerque honored the singers and musicians present at the event, who have contributed their valuable service in the making of the album. Music directors Joel Periera and Roshan D’Souza, singers Shilpa Cutinho, Anita D’Souza, Prescilla Sequiera, Edith D’Souza, Nester Peris were also present at the CD release ceremony.
The event ended with playing of melodious tracks from the CD 'Sodvonnechea Vater'. Jerry Rasquinha compered the ceremony.
