Udupi, Jan 27: Police have arrested a woman for hiding the corpse of her husband who allegedly committed suicide. The woman took the help of her paramour for this act.
Karibasayya (50) from Bagalkote is the person deceased. His wife Renuka (45) and her lover Sharanappa (30) are the persons arrested.
As per details of the case, Karibasayya was a coolie worker who lived in a rented house near Karavali bye pass road here. On Monday, there was a quarrel between Karibasayya and Renuka on the matter of her extra marital affair with Sharanappa. Karibasayya threatened her that he would die and in a fit of rage hanged himself.
When Renuka touched his body, she discovered that her husband had already died. She was terrified and left the body of her dead husband at home as it is and went to her relative's house near DC office and stayed there as if nothing happened. Sharanappa too was with her then.
At midnight they went together to take the corpse and put it in a sleeping position off the highway at Karavali bye pass road. They even kept sachets of liquor near the body to create an impression that Karibasayya died because of excessive drinking.
Post mortem was done on the body and it was sent to the native place of the deceased for final rites. Meanwhile, a young girl had seen the couple quarrelling on Monday. She informed the police about it during investigation. When Vishu Shetty, a social worker came to see the body after some people told him about suspicion in the death, he saw some marks on the body. Brother of the deceased Kumar also lodged a complaint at the Udupi city police station suspecting unnatural death.
When the police interrogated Renuka thoroughly, they unearthed the truth. She admitted that she had a quarrel with her husband, saw him hanging and with the help of lover she hid the dead body.
Renuka's has three children with the eldest daughter married and the next daughter being engaged. Her son the youngest of all, studies in school.
Renuka and Sharanappa were produced in court on Tuesday night and have been granted judicial custody.
