Ajman, Sep 10: His Excellency Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Awards for Medical Sciences initiated the new batch of MBBS and BPT students at a White coat ceremony held at the college premises on the 8th of September 2007. Ahamed Hajee Mohiudeen, Chairman BA Group India was the Guest of Honor. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of the college presided over the function. Many VIPs and dignitaries attended the ceremony. Apart from these eminent personalities, parents, relatives and friends witnessed the function.


 

Dean, Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, in her welcome address mentioned about the achievements of the college and congratulated the students on choosing to be healthcare professionals. She explained about the importance of the initiation process for the students. Later, Moideen honored the guests by presenting special mementos.

Prof. Najib Al Khaja in his address impressed upon the students about the challenges that lie ahead and said that it is one of the biggest decisions they have made in their life. ' I congratulate you on your accomplishment. Without having achieved tremendous success, you wouldn't be here today.   But remember that you have many more opportunities for success ahead. Don't let this very special opportunity passes you by' he said.

 

The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the student's dedication to healthcare profession and its responsibilities and obligations. New students are personally cloaked in their first white coats by College faculty, and then recite the pledge. They assume the mantle of the medical profession in a meaningful ritual before an audience of mentors, family and friends. The donning of coats by the students acknowledges their initiation into the world of healthcare. The ceremony is designed to impress upon the first-year students, the significance and symbolism of the white coat.

Gulf Medical College promoted by the Thumbay Group is striving hard to provide quality medical education to all the students and expose the students of GMCA to an international level through their summer training program. The program will be open to all the students of G.M.C. The conference secretariat at G.M.C is in the forefront of organizing C.M.E and C.P.D programs for the benefit of students, faculty and practicing doctors and has lined up several interesting programs for this year. The college has already started accepting enquiries for the forthcoming programs which is proposed to start from September 2008 subject to approval from ministry of Higher education & Scientific Research, Doctor of Dental Medicine-DMD* (4years + One year Internship) Bachelor of Science Nursing*(4 Years) - B.S.N Bachelor of Pharmacy* - B. Pharm(4 Years). The Gulf Medical College – Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Training Program in Family Practice is the first of its kind program introduced to provided high quality training for Medical Graduates to obtain General Practitioner training in the UAE in association with the UAE Ministry Of Health.

 

GMC –RACGP - MOH Training Program In Family Practice is a three year full-time program that allows participants to gain valuable practical experience in teaching hospitals, rural and urban practices and in specialised medical centres which provide health care for communities. Trainees who successfully complete all training requirements and the relevant examinations become eligible to be awarded the Joint GMC – RACGP – Program Fellowship.
