Mangaluru, Jan 30: Relating to a theft which had taken place on the night of November 23 last year at Our Lady of Mercy church at Fajir within Konaje police station limits here, police personnel have succeeded in arresting the main accused on Thursday January 28.
The arrested accused is Sahul Hameed from Rajagudde in Harekala village.
A gang of thieves had entered the church at Fajir, and fled after stealing holy sacrament, laptops, utensils and other items. The scene of theft was captured by CCTV cameras. Konaje police had in later days, succeeded in arresting some accused persons and recovering stolen items from their possession. But main accused, Sahul Hameed, had remained elusive.
The policemen say that Sahul also was involved with theft at a shop dealing in cellphone and a fancy shop at Deralakatte. The policemen had made elaborate plans to arrest him. On Thursday, a team led by Konaje police inspector, Ashok, and police sub-inspector, Sudhakar, succeeded in taking him into custody. He was produced in court thereafter.
