Udupi, Sep 10: An overbridge constructed overnight near town municipal office was inaugurated recently here.

Dr V S Acharya, district in-charge minister inaugurated the newly-constructed overbridge. 

Speaking on this occasion, he said that another subway will be constructed near the taluk office here, at a cost of Rs 35 lac. A proposal to construct two more subways near the National Highway (NH) too is under consideration. The work will commence after converting NH into four lanes, he informed.

Meanwhile he felicitated Gladys Alvares of Cila Advertisers, for constructing this subway.

Zilla Panchayat president B N Shankar Poojary, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, DySP Dr Subrahmaneshwar Rao, municipal commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, district information officer M Junjanna and Walter Monteiro, manager of Cila Advertisers, were present on this occasion.

The subway was constructed by using Galvanised Iron (GI) sheets. It was brought here in a trailer on August 29 night. 

Later it was placed here before sunrise on August 30. Cila Advertisers would maintain this subway for 15 years under Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) basis, sources said.
