Defence park approved for Kerala


Thiruvanathapuram, Feb 2 (IANS): The proposal for setting up a Rs.231 crore defence components park in Kerala's Palakkad district, an official said on Tuesday.

The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) Defence Park is a part of the Make in India initiative.

KINFRA Managing Director G.C. Gopala Pillai said the park could start operation in one year and reach maximum production in two years.

The project was approved by the department of industrial policy and promotion, the state government official said.

It is a part of the Modified Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (MIIUS). The park will have all modern common infrastructure and facilities to manufacture components for the defence industry with the central government's assistance.

KINFRA has acquired 60 acres of land in Palakkad and it will ensure dedicated power and water supply, communication facilities for the easy start up of industrial units.

The project will have facilities such as a tool room, environment testing facility, training facility, warehouses, R&D, incubation centre and a quality certification centre.
