Jet Airways suspends 5 cabin crew over Sonu Nigam's 'concert' on flight

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI): Jet Airways has suspended five crew members who were part of a chartered flight after aviation watchdog DGCA took serious note of an episode in which singer Sonu Nigam was allowed to belt out Bollywood numbers using the in-flight announcement system.

The incident occurred on a flight from Jodhpur to Mumbai on January 4, when the "errant" crew members allowed Nigam to hold a sort of musical concert on board following a request from fellow passengers, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) sources said.

The matter came to DGCA's notice after a video of Nigam singing on board the flight went viral on social media.

Action has been initiated against the crew members since allowing a passenger to use the public address system on board a flight amounts to violation of safety norms, the sources said.

"All cabin crew on the flight have been taken off flight duty for inquiry and corrective training to reinforce strict adherence to operating procedures," Jet Airways said in a statement.

As per a Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) on training and licensing of cabin crew, issued by DGCA in 2010, "the PA (public address) system and interphone system are tools for relaying safety information".

The punishment is right. Sonu & Co were over riding safety precautions. But 'man ki baat' I dont understand, why again Modi is dragged to this by some?

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) did the right thing by suspending the 5 cabin crew members of Jet Airways. Probably, they did not know that what they did was not a serous offence.

I feel its a very harsh decision by Jetairways. After all he was singing and not causing any harm. May be a warning was enough. Suspending will stop their salary and crews family members will suffer, Hars to understand the decision.

Ms. Kusuma, it is a flying Aeroplane.

Not a Bus stand or Restaurant.

This may lead to hijack of Plane while all are concentrating on his song.

Safety measure on the sky is very important. Precaution always better

No doubt art has no boundaries, a singer can sing anywhere may be in the sky or in the bottom of sea but safety norms should not be compromised as happened in this case as crew members attention might have diverted to his airborne concert.

@Masthan Dubai, the difference is only ,here they are on air ,in bus on the road, means on a steady floor. When any emergency happens, there is hardly time and takes time to negotiate important steps that can lead to a fatal disaster. And they have I think Need permission from above.second Crew cant attend other passengers Needs properly.Exactly what was the cause that can only Airways should explain.Sad they lost the Job.Even a warning was enough I feel.

Because bus did not hit twin tower and kill 3000 people, In 1999 terrorists hijacked plane not bus.
