Kundapur, Feb 8: Balkur gram panchayat president, Akshat Sherigar, said that 75 Congress activists including himself have deserted Congress party by tendering resignation to their memberships of the party en masse. He gave this information, addressing a press conference at Balkur on Sunday February 7.
"The party leadership did injustice to Jayaprakash Hegde, who had worked strenuously towards strengthening of the party, by not making him party candidate for legislative council election. Thereafter, without assigning any reason, he was expelled from the party. Angered by these developments, we decided to leave the party," he stated.
Gram panchayat member, Ashok Mogaveera, predicted an exodus of party activists from Congress in the coming days. He said that when he was MP, Hegde had contributed for the progress of the region in the form of development of roads, drinking water facility, sports materials for schools, road concreting at Balkur and Kalinabagilu, in addition to a number of other initiatives. He said the party workers have been disheartened and pained at the ouster of Hegde, and informed of their joint decision to move forward henceforth under the guidance of Hegde.
