15 tourists stung by honey bees at Konark Sun Temple


Bhubaneswar, Feb 9 (IANS): At least 15 tourists, including four foreigners, were injured after being stung by a swarm of honey bees at the Konark Sun Temple premises in Odisha on Tuesday, officials said.

This was the second consecutive day that the bees stung visitors to the world famous heritage site, around 65 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. On Monday too, honey bees attacked tourists to the temple.

According to sources, the scared tourists vacated the temple premises after the 15 visitors, including four foreigners and two tourists from Chhattisgarh, were injured.

An official of the Archaeological Survey of India said they were trying to take steps to remove the bee hives from the temple premises.

The sale of tickets was put on hold temporarily.
