Mangalore, Sep 14: It seems that bad days of stranded Chinese ship 'Chang Le Men' are not yet over. It was only a day ago, that the ship had been restored to its original position after it had tilted by Tannirbavi shores a week ago.
When Daijiworld went near the ship on Friday September 14 morning on a small boat, the situation seemed to be pretty good. It had been informed on Thursday September 13 that the ship will set on sail on Friday by afternoon. But some water was found inside the stranded ship on Thursday night, which has now once again become an obstacle.
So far it has not yet been found out as from where the water entered the ship. Expert divers who have come to the spot are checking the ship inch by inch. Since the ship had been grounded, there are likely chances of the hull being damaged. If that is the case, then the ship cannot set on sail again.
Sources also said that if at all the hull is damaged, it cannot be repaired with the existing technology in the city. Mangalore does not have enough technology to repair these kinds of snags.
One thing is very sure, that there are very rare instances in which a grounded ship has set on sail once again. Moreover, a ship grounded in the sea during rough monsoon season hardly has any chances of escape from nature's fury. It is the same case with Chang Le Men. Water was pumped out of the ship and load had been equally shifted on both sides. But now that water has been spotted once again, there are a lot of doubts lingering in the minds of many.
Meanwhile, underwater survey is yet to be carried out. Other than that all necessary inspections are going on. The quality and quantity of the cargo is yet to be inspected. Right now insurance inspection is going on.
Nothing exactly can be said looking at the present situation. If everything goes on smoothly and all the problems are rectified, then only the ship can leave Tannirbavi shores. The ship crew and officials who are undertaking the salvage operations as well as the visitors, are hoping for the best. But only time can give answers to innumerable questions which nature and fate has been posing.
