Bengaluru, Feb 11: The information that two new leopards were sighted on Tuesday night caught the people living in the eastern side of the city unawares. After the leopard that had entered the premises of Vibgyor school in Marathhalli on Sunday was caught, the people had heaved a sigh of relief.
The fear of encountering the wild animal is so widespread that people are afraid of moving around in the open after dusk.
After it became public that leopards had been sighted on Tuesday night at the eucalyptus plantation behind Vibgyor school premises, the school had declared holiday on Wednesday. As a precaution, 53 government and 73 private schools located in the city (east) taluk have been given holiday on Thursday.
As per reports of the locals, two leopards had been seen once during the night. But those who have been entrusted with the task of catching the animals have been working since Tuesday night, but they have failed to notice any signs of leopards having moved around in the area. Their failure to catch the animals has given anxious moments to the people, who are fearful about unexpectedly getting attacked by the animal.
It was said that the leopards had also tried to enter a nearby apartments complex. This gave sleepless nights to residents of this apartment and others living around this area. Over a 100 construction workers, who have pitched tents behind Vibgyor school and living there, are also worrying over the prospects of getting attacked by leopards at night. They say that they are spending time under stress because of the worry caused by the news about citing of leopards.
