Puttur, Sep 15: A child domestic help was rescued, with the help of the localities from the house of a teacher of Padmanja School Rukmaya here, on Friday September 14.

The child who was employed in the teacher’s house is identified as Sundari, aged 13 years is the daughter of Chanchappa and Savithramma, a resident of Konapur in Hirehalli at Kodagu district.  She was assigned to work at the house of Rukmanja as a domestic help, and there she was loaded with house work beyond her capacity. Moreover she was also physically ill-treated and deprived of proper meals.

When the ill-treatment of the child was noticed by the neighbors and localites, they informed the income tax officer. The income-tax officer in turn took action, by bringing with him the Tahsildar and the police, who together raided the teacher’s house. However, despite a thorough check, the child was not found there. She had surreptitiously been taken to the temple by Rukmaya. A little distance away some localities, noticed the child being taken away by the brother of the Rukmaya on his scooter, then the localities on seeing this duplicity publicly stopped Rukmaya’s brother and took the child and handed her over to police officers.

From there the unfortunate child was taken to the Uppinagadi police station and a case under child labor act, registered at the said police station.  Rukmaya was later taken into custody by the police.
