Elephant kills man in Bengal


Siliguri, Feb 12 (IANS): A man was killed and three forest officials were injured on Friday when an elephant attacked them in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, officials said.

The incident took place in Rajganj area when the elephant strayed out of a forest and killed Niren Roy, 50, who had gone near the jungle to relieve himself, Divisional Forest Officer P.R. Pradhan said.

The animal also attacked a forest department vehicle, injuring three officials.

The incident comes two days after an elephant strayed into a residential area in neighbouring Siliguri and went on a rampage, damaging several houses and vehicles.
