Delhi HC to hear East Delhi civic workers' plea on arrears


New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS): The Delhi High Court will hear on February 15 a plea that it direct the Delhi government and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to pay arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission award to the civic employees.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath on Friday agreed to take up on February 15 the plea filed by D.P. Chandel and Rakesh Vaid, the president and the general Secretary of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

The bench tagged the matter with a bunch of petitions for payment of salaries to the sanitation workers of the three civic corporations of Delhi and also the issue of their strike. 

The civic employees petitioned the court that it issue direction for payment of arrears of hiked wages under the Sixth Pay Commission award, and of salaries and wages within the first week of every month.
