Kasargod, Feb 15: In a major haul, the Kasargod police led by DySP M V Sukumaran on Monday February 15 seized 80 kg of ganja that was being transported by car from Manjeshwar. The accused managed to escape in another car.
Based on credible information, the police conducted inspection of vehicles near Thuminadu in Manjehwar on Monday evening. A Duster car moving from Mangaluru towards Kasargod sped away even though the police signalled it to stop. The police then chased the car, and mid way, two persons who were in it stopped the car and got out, and then escaped in another car which had followed them to help them get away, it is learnt.
On inspection, the police found several packets of ganja in the car.
The police have already gathered some information about the accused and search for them is on. Police sources said that the absconding accused are Valerian D'Souza of Miyapadavu and Naushad of Permude. It is also learnt that they had transported the ganja from Andhra Pradesh via Hassan
Sources said that ganja is being transported in huge quantities to Kasargod, and there may be a network operating in the region whose main targets are school and college students.
SI Sunil Kumar, Manjeshwar SI Pramod, DCIB inspector Philip, Narayana, Sunil, Balakrishna, Saju and other police personnel were part of the operation.
