Dammam, Sep 17: Shirva Welfare Association based in Dammam organized annual Summer Cricket Tournament at Kanoo Cricket Ground facility, in Dammam, here recently.
 
Amaco Jubail trounced Blue Star cricketers by five wickets in the final to clinch the trophy.

Blue star captain Anwar, after elected to bat first but lost both the openers on the score of 12 runs. One down batsman Imthiaz blistered his power and made quick 13 runs, while  3rd and 4th wickets fell in quick succession.

Middle order batsmen Gafoor and captain Anwar resisted and contributed 26 runs for fifth wicket. After the fall of Gafoor and Anwar, Anis' prowess in batting came to the fore as he hit two consecutive sixes in one over to aggregate the final tally to 79 runs in their  allotted 10 over.






Chasing the stiff target Amaco Jabail openers Zubair and Shabbir started their inning and lost 1st wicket of Shabbir in first over and also 2nd wicket of Ismail in 2nd over, with the total score of just 7 runs on the board. Zubair batted cleverly with ones and twos raising score with Iqbal. Both consolidated their innings with required run rate and contributed 53 runs for the 4th wicket.

Partnership of Zubair and Iqbal for Amaco cricketers made task easy and they grabbed 2nd Shirva Cricket Cup by 5 wickets in the last over of the match. Zubair of Ameco Jubail deserved Man of the Match award for his excellent batting and bowling display.

Prior to the finals, in the sem-finals, Blue Star defeated Tamimi Cricketers by 5 wickets. Tamimi batted first with disastrous batting display and concluded their innings at the score of 48 runs, which Blue star Cricketers comfortably achieved with 5 wickets to spare.

In the 2nd Semi-finals Amaco Jubail whipped out Strikers by 7 wickets. After choosing to bat first, Strikers frontline batsmen batted recklessly and lost 3 quick wickets on the score of 12 runs. Subsequently, Rajesh and Shamil resisted further crumple of their batting as they contributed 45 runs for 4th wicket.

With the departure of Shamil and Rajesh, their inning concluded on the meager total of 60 runs in their allotted overs. Chasing the easy target Amaco Jubail lost first wicket of Zahoor on first ball.  Subsequently, Shabbir and Iqbal batted diligently and achieved the target comfortably.

After the finals, prize distribution function was organized, in which general secretary Mohammed Shiraj presented prizes for the merited players, viz Man of The Tournament – Mohammed Iqbal of Amaco Jubail for his excellent batting and bowling.








Best Batsman was awarded to Rahaman of Strikers, Best Bowler Anees of Blue Star, Best Fielder Sarath of Tamimi and Ashraf of Blue star was judged as keeper of the tournament.

In this 3 week-long Shirva Summer Cricket Tournament, 16 teams participated from Dammam, Khobar, Qatif and Jubail.

Zubair Ali, treasurer, welcomed the gathering and present detailed activity report of Shirva Welfare associations and Shirva Summer Cup - 2007.

Karim Gurani of Kanoo- president of Dammam Cricket Association and Imthiaz Hameed, vice-president of DCA , in their  brief speech appreciated and  praised  the efforts taken by Shirva Welfare Association for the cause of community.

General secretary proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated and thanked all those who rendered help, supported and worked hard to make this tournament a grand success.
